Hello,

I took a break from playing MWO for about a week and a half. I attempted to begin playing again yesterday, but the game is almost completely unplayable due to lag. I am having severe teleporting/rubber banding across the entirety of every match I attempt to play and I am frequently disconnected from the server. My ping is spiking from 80-2000+

Nothing with my internet has changed, and I can play other online games with little to no lag. Before this I generally had a consistent ping of 40-80 with little lag and only periodic ping spikes (once or twice every 10 games only lasting for a second).

I emailed support. But with things this way I will be unable to play the new patch tomorrow ;) Help?

Also, I'm not sure if this is the correct section. If not, could a mod please move it. Thanks.

It always gets worse and worse towards the patch day, they should restart the servers once a week.

Two possibilities spring to mind:
  • Increased server load due to the double XP weekend.
  • Spamhaus is getting DDoSed again and the traffic is using the same nodes as you are.
But really, I got nothin'

I don't know. I do know I'm getting worse and worse hud bugs. Today I had a game where the hud was bugged, then suddenly my targeting reticle stops working and the game just crashed to desktop on me when I died.

Well, it is still the same today :P I was hoping them refressing the servers might fix it.

Have you checked locally yet? ISP, your router/modem, backbone out from your ISP? Try doing a tracert to PGI and see where the higher pings kick in.

There's a massive DDoS war going on that's slowing everything down across the entire internet. Check your computer for malware as you might be contributing to it unintentionally hence the high ping.

I was silly to think I'd be the only one to make a post about the lag. http://mwomercs.com/...36#entry2170736

I ran a trace route to what I believe is PGI's server. My response times are all between 30 and 100 ms. So there does not seem to be a problem between me and PGI. Also, I have no problem playing a few of the other games I have tried.

Sadly the issue has escalated since the patch for me. I now cannot make it through a single game without "this session was lost" :D anyone else?

I can make it through most games; but get pretty regular rubberbanding and lag freezes throughout. Doesn't sound like yours; but it does seem they are having a lag/rubberbanding issue on their end.

I re-installed. Then I heaviily adjusted things in the Nvidia control Panel and as long as I set my firewall to game mode I'm fine. Before the patch, Game mode didn't matter.

I'm wondering if everyone else having lag has that issue too, where a firewall didn't effect the game before but now it does.

Well, it is essentially the same. Mine is just worse :D I get the lagging/rubberbanding too and then I get disconnected.

I will test this now and post my result.

edit: Sadly the firewall idea has no noticeable effect.
